How to play
Every day, each mode has one event from League of Legends history. Name the patch it happened in: type it the way you remember it (14.3, v14.03, V1.0.0.98, 3.01, 25.S1.2, 13.1b) or tap Browse by year, then a year and a patch. Guesses are unlimited; what counts is how many you needed.
Every guess comes back as a row: your patch and its date, a Year tile, a Close tile and one arrow, earlier or later. Under it you see what your guessed patch brought. In Browse by year, every patch your arrows rule out is dimmed; the Timeline section shades the stretch they still allow.
Hints: after 4 guesses another headline of the answer’s patch, after 8 the quarter of the year, and in Champions after 10 the champions released just before and after. Give up shows the answer.
The patch eras
Riot has numbered its patches in several ways since 2009, and LoLPatchdle shows each patch the way Riot labelled it, with its release date and year.
- Alpha and closed beta, 2009: weekly alpha builds, then beta patches named by date (April 18, 2009 patch) and versions like V0.9.22.16. The first champions arrived here.
- V1.0.0.x, October 2009 to January 2013: from the open beta and the launch to V1.0.0.154. The numbers skip, so V1.0.0.152 is not the 152nd patch.
- 3.01 to 3.15, 2013: Season Three. Riot wrote 3.01 to 3.04 with a zero.
- 4.1 to 14.24, 2014 to 2024: the season number first, then the patch of that year, about two weeks apart.
- 25.S1.1 to 25.24, 2025: three patches named after Season 1, then 25.4 to 25.24.
- 26.1 onwards, 2026: the year first again.
Hotfixes and b-patches count as their parent patch: 7.24b is 7.24. One exception is 13.1b, which took the slot of 13.2 and has its own notes; type 13.1b or 13.2. The year is always the year of the release date, so a preseason patch in November counts for that year.
Feedback rules
- Year: green for the same calendar year as the answer, orange for one year off, red for two or more.
- Close: green only for the right patch, orange when your patch came out within 35 days of the answer (about two patches since 2014), red otherwise.
- Arrow: “Later” means the answer came out after your guess, “Earlier” before it.
- In this patch: a headline of the patch you guessed, in our words. It never names today’s answer.
No tile shows a distance, so two guesses never give the answer away. Colours always come with words; colourblind tiles and Challenger mode (no Close column, marked in your share) are in the settings (gear, top left).
The four modes
- Champions (normal): in which patch did a champion join the Rift? The 27 champions of the earliest alpha and beta builds, which had no numbered patch, are never asked.
- Items (hard): which patch added an item to Summoner’s Rift, or removed it? Items that left and came back are asked with the exact event, such as “brought back” or “removed again”. Limited-time modes don’t count.
- Big changes (hard): champion reworks and visual updates, new maps, objectives such as the Rift Herald or Atakhan, and systems such as Runes Reforged or Honor. Each counts in the patch it went live worldwide.
- Patch notes (very hard): a single balance line in our own neutral format, with BUFF, NERF or ADJUST. Which version of the kit it belongs to is shown after the round.
Each mode has its own answer, and no two modes share the same answer patch on the same day.
About the data
425 patches (Alpha Week 2 in 2009 to 26.21 in October 2026), the release patches of 173 champions, 206 item changes, 151 big changes and 461 balance lines come from the League of Legends Wiki, checked against Riot’s patch notes (or archived copies), Riot’s patch schedule and Data Dragon. A date is the day a patch went live. Rows that stay unclear after a check by hand are never answers.

FAQ
When is there a new puzzle?
Every day at midnight, Zurich time (CET/CEST). Everyone gets the same events. The countdown after a round shows the time left.
Which spellings can I type?
Riot’s labels with or without a V or a leading zero (3.1 and 3.01, V1.0.0.98, 26.01), the 2025 forms 25.S1.1 and 25.1, b-patches such as 13.1b, the date-named beta patches (April 18, 2009) and Alpha Week 2. Typing a year lists that year’s patches.
Why does a champion’s patch differ from its release day?
Riot often released a champion a few days after its patch went live. The question always asks for the patch, so Sett counts for 10.1 even though he went live on 14 January 2020.
What counts as a hotfix?
Hotfixes, a-patches and b-patches belong to their parent patch. 13.1b is the one exception: it replaced 13.2, so it is its own patch and also answers to 13.2.
How do streaks and stats work?
Your browser keeps your results per mode. The streak grows by one on each day you finish at least one mode. Stats show played rounds, solved percentage, streaks and how many guesses you usually need. Nothing needs an account.
Is this made by Riot?
No. LoLPatchdle is a fan quiz under Riot Games’ “Legal Jibber Jabber” policy. Riot Games does not endorse or sponsor it. It is free and funded by ads.
Does the share text spoil the answer?
No. It shows only coloured squares and arrows, one row per guess.
I found a wrong date or patch. What now?
Write to hello@dailyguess.org with the patch and a source. Fixes start on a future day, so nobody’s past puzzle changes.
